Google Earth for birders

Bill Schmoker recently offered a couple lessons in uses of Google Earth for birding. Check out this and that post. The first post describes seven situations, while the latter entry goes into detail about a Christmas Bird Count circle.

Maybe you've already heard about plans for your local CBC on listservs or whatnot. Perhaps you'd like to participate in the long-standing citizen-science census of wintering birds? The 107th count season is Dec. 14 to Jan. 5, so check in soon with a local Audubon chapter.

Google Earth is useful for checking out sites before visiting for the first time. It helps to know the lay of the land.

Thanks for posting this, Amy. I had missed the early references to this use of Google Earth. I can't way to try it out myself!
