RGV: welcome reception

The Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival began today, with field trips throughout the valley. Field trip leaders, speakers and attendees gathered at the Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum this evening for hors d'oeuvres and beverages.

While we gabbed and gobbled for a couple hours, we also could visit an exhibit of Day of the Dead altars. The colorful displays were very cool to examine.

I always thought that the Day of the Dead was a pretty cool idea. Sugar skulls, and lots of flowers..what's wrong with that?
It got me thinking about what kind of altar I would build for lost loved ones, if I was Hispanic.
That would make a good post...hmmm.

I don't know, I'm a little creeped out about it.

I like the idea, too, Susan. It shows an acceptance of death as part of life, a certain level of comfort with that fact.
