Birdbath sealant?

A new subscriber seeks suggestions about a sealant for his leaking cement birdbath. He wrote:
All the retail store cement sealers that seal and hold standing water list chemical warnings of one kind or another. Whatever, the warnings do not sound good for wild birds. Do you have any suggestions as to what I might use to seal the cement birdbath without hurting wild birds?
Care to offer some tips to a fellow birder? Thank you!

I do not know of ANY sealant that is safe for bird baths. When I worked at the bird store, customers told me they used Thompson's Water Seal, but when I called the company they said that it should NOT be used for bird baths.

there are some sealants that can be used to make concrete ponds safe for fish - I'd imagine they should be safe for birds (since they're non-toxic to fish which get more exposure) and might be worth looking into.
